A group of 13 Grade XI students, accompanied by Ms. Shobha Tayal and Ms. Rashmi Tomar soaked in a rejuvenating literary experience at the Jaipur Literature Festival on 21 and 22 January ‘15.
The educational trip, organized with the aim of helping students celebrate the diversity, creativity, and dedication involved with the written word, was greatly successful in inculcating an admiration for literature. Along with literary talks, students got an exposure to the regional culture and traditions through a trip to Chokhi Dhani, a culture center that showcases the traditional art, dance, food, craft and lifestyle.
The trip was a true example of learning through immersion. The literary luminaries sparked awe among the students and inspired them to follow the discussions with utmost attention. Javed Akhtar’s analysis of the movie industry, Devdhar Patnaik’s ready wit in exploration of myths, discussion on dharma and duties derived from Ramayana and Mahabharata, questions on faith raised by eminent panelists like by Esther David, Keki Daruwalla, Amish Tripathi, Alberto Manguel, Ambi Parameswaran, Rajiv Malhotra and Arshia Sattar were common discussion topics as the students took the bus ride back to the hotel, and the train to Delhi thereafter.
Everything, right from researching on the speakers’ background, standing in serpentine queues to find space in the venue, getting a glimpse of their favorite author and proudly flaunting an autograph, was an experience that promises to stay with the students.
The students are keen to share their learnings through a presentation detailing their experiences, observations and reflections. A time slot for the knowledge sharing session will soon be communicated to you.
